Hunting

Hunting Permitted

Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) have rules and regulations for hunting not required on private property. Hunters must possess a valid hunting license, the appropriate tags and stamps, as well as the proper public hunting permit. Permits include: Annual Public Hunting Permit (APH), computer drawn Special Permits, and the Regular Permit, which allows daily small game hunting on some areas. Hunters 16 years of age and younger are not required to have a hunting permit, but must have a hunting license and be supervised by a licensed, permitted adult, 18 years of age or older. Hunters and non-hunters must wear hunter orange during daylight hours at any time when firearm hunting for any species is authorized on the unit (except turkeys, waterfowl, and dove). An Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit is required.

  • Special Hunts are scheduled when needed.
  • Deer, wild hogs, waterfowl, dove and squirrel are some of the species found at the White Oak Creek WMA.
  • Hunters must sign in and out at the check-in stations.
  • Dogs may be used to hunt feral hogs and furbearers, but prior arrangements must be made with the Area Manager.

Special Permit Special Regulations

Entrance at designated entry points is required. No trapping is allowed. Waterfowl decoys are not to be left set out overnight.

Firearms Restriction:

  • Firearms are restricted to shotguns with non-toxic shot or no larger than #4 lead shot, and rifles or handguns of no greater than .22 caliber long rifle rimfire for the taking of small game.
  • Archery and firearms of any caliber or shot size may be used for hunting feral hogs during the general season.
