Description
The D.R. Wintermann Wildlife Management Area has 246 acres and is located in Wharton County. A former rice farm, a section of the WMA was used to develop a wetlands area to serve as a waterfowl sanctuary. The land is flat coastal prairie and primarily serves as a waterfowl sanctuary site. It is also used as a laboratory for students and landowners to observe wetlands and coastal prairie management. This environment attracts wintering migratory birds including bald eagles, sandhill cranes, a variety of geese, teal, doves, ducks, ibis, neotropical migrants and many other birds. Groups should contact the manager for information.
