Mission Reach Paddling Trail Announced as Official Texas Paddling Trail

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced the San Antonio River Walk: Mission Reach Paddling Trail will be joining 71 other inland and coastal trails as an official Texas Paddling Trail March 2.

First Toyota ShareLunker Caught From Lake Naconiche

ATHENS – Angler Larry Mosby caught the second Toyota ShareLunker of the 2017 season Feb. 28 from Lake Naconiche near Nacogdoches. ShareLunker 567, a 13.06 pound largemouth bass, is the first ShareLunker from the lake to be submitted to the program.

SAN FELIPE— After almost a year of repairs from the flooding last Memorial Day, Stephen F. Austin State Park is reopening its gates to visitors March 1.

Free Fishing for Spring Breakers at the Tyler Nature Center

TYLER – Warm weather is great for spring breakers looking to get outside after a winter hibernating indoors, but its bad news for winter-loving rainbow trout who thrive in the colder water. Tyler area spring breakers can take advantage of the changing fishing seasons and catch the rest of these winter-fish for free March 13 to 16 at the Tyler Nature Center.

Teen Arrested in Connection with Shooting Death of Bald Eagle

AUSTIN — On Feb. 22, an American bald eagle was shot in north Harris County, Texas, near White Oak Bayou. The eagle was one of two adult eagles that have actively nested in this area for several years.

Three Leased Public Fishing Access Areas Open for White Bass Anglers

AUSTIN – White bass are one of Texas’ most sought after game fish, especially when they make their annual spring spawning migration into rivers above reservoirs. Now that those fish are on the move, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) River Access and Conservation Area program has opened free public access sites for anglers at three of the best white bass runs in the state.

Texas Game Wardens Lead Successful Joint Operation Bahia de Aransas

AUSTIN – Texas game wardens over the weekend wrapped up a successful six-day multiagency initiative, called Operation Bahia de Aransas, designed to increase law enforcement presence along the coastal bend region. The initiative was in response to increased commercial oyster activity in Aransas, Carlos and Mesquite bays.
