“Operation Dry Water” Nationwide Boating Under the Influence Crackdown This Weekend in Texas

AUSTIN – Thousands of law enforcement officers across the United States, including Texas Game Wardens, will be on heightened alert for those violating boating under the influence laws during the annual Operation Dry Water weekend, June 26-28. Operation Dry Water is a nationally coordinated heightened awareness and enforcement campaign, focused on deterring boaters from boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Nominations Sought for Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame

ATHENS, Texas — Individuals or organizations that have made a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in Texas may be nominated through November 1 for induction into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.

Dallas Teacher Named Wildlife Forever Educator of the Year

ATHENS—Jennifer Brooks of Kerens has been named Wildlife Forever’s State-Fish Art 2015 Educator of the Year. A pre-kindergarten through grade 5 art specialist at Felix G. Botello Elementary in Dallas, Texas, she is being recognized for her significant contribution to youth conservation education. She receives a $500 gift card for classroom art supplies from the award’s sponsor, Triarco Arts & Crafts.

Draft Catfish Management Plan Available for Review

ATHENS—Winning entries in the Texas division of the Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest will be on display at the Beverly S. Sheffield Education Center in Austin until July 5.

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Trustees Extend Public Comment Period on the Draft Phase IV Early Restoration Plan to July 6

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill Natural Resource Damage Assessment Trustees have extended the public comment period for the Draft Phase IV Early Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessments. The draft proposes an additional 10 early restoration projects with an estimated cost of $134 million across the Gulf states. The draft is now available for public review and comment through July 6 rather than the original deadline of June 19.
