Texas Pollinator BioBlitz Kicks off Friday, Oct. 6

AUSTIN — From Oct. 6-22, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will kick off the eighth annual Texas Pollinator BioBlitz, celebrating the bees, wasps, butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, hummingbirds, nectar-feeding bats, and other animals that serve as pollinators across Texas.

Summer Photo Contest Winner Chosen; “Fall in Love With Your Park” is Final Theme

AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department wrapped up the summer portion of the Texas State Parks Centennial Photo Contest, choosing a winner from more than 740 entries. The winning photo for the “Keepin’ it Cool at Texas State Parks” summer theme was taken by Heather Averill and features an otherworldly underwater view of Balmorhea State Park’s spring-fed pool.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Minority Outdoor Alliance Partner for Minority Outdoor Festival in Cedar Creek

Emergency Rule Adopted, New Surveillance Zone Created in Kimble County

AUSTIN — In response to a positive detection of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in a deer breeding facility, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has adopted an emergency rule implementing a new surveillance zone in Kimble County.

Rewards Doubled for Alligator Snapping Turtle Poaching Tips

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is offering rewards of up to $1,000 for Texans who report poaching of alligator snapping turtles through Texas’ wildlife crime-stoppers program, Operation Game Thief (OGT).  Thanks to additional funds from the agency’s Conservation License Plate Program, the reward can be doubled if the tip leads to convictions for snapping turtle cases.

TPWD Announces Habitat and Angler Access Program Projects for 2024-25

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Inland Fisheries Division has selected 10 new projects to be supported by the Habitat and Angler Access Program (HAAP) for 2024-25. HAAP, which launched in June 2021, sponsored its first round of projects in 2022-23 and is primarily funded by the purchase of freshwater fishing licenses.

2024 Texas Fish Art Contest Now Accepting Entries

ATHENS — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is excited to announce the 2024 Texas division of Wildlife Forever’s Fish Art Contest is open for submissions. The Fish Art Contest, which is accepting entries until Feb. 28, is part of an international conservation education program designed to foster youth interest in fisheries and fishing.

LUBBOCK – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), the Department of Natural Resources Management at Texas Tech University and the Texas Wildlife Association are hosting the Panhandle Wildlife Conference Oct. 20-21 at Texas Tech University’s National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock.

Texas Commemorates National Hunting and Fishing Day this Saturday, Sept. 23

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is encouraging Texans to bring their family and friend into the outdoors to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday. National Hunting and Fishing Day, celebrated on the fourth Saturday of every September, recognizes hunters and anglers for their contributions and leadership to wildlife and conservation.
