TPW Commission Approves Purchase of Fairfield Lake State Park

AUSTIN— During Thursday’s public meeting, Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission unanimously voted to authorize Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) executive director to take all necessary steps to purchase approximately 5,000 acres in Freestone County including Fairfield Lake State Park.

2023 Leopold Conservation Award Honors Fayette County’s Brown Ranch

AUSTIN — Mark and Cheryl Brown have been awarded the state’s highest honor for private land conservation, the Leopold Conservation Award, which will be presented at the Lone Star Land Steward awards banquet on May 25 in Austin. The Brown Ranch, located in Ammansville in Fayette County, was previously awarded the Lone Star Land Steward Blackland Prairie ecoregion award in 2017. Since then, the couple has continued superlative conservation work on tall-grass prairie restoration and community outreach.

Federal Red Snapper Season Opens June 1

AUSTIN — The private recreational angler red snapper season in federal water opens Thursday, June 1. Red snapper fishing is open year-round in state waters. Bag and size limits will remain unchanged.
