Volunteers Sought For Crab Trap Clean-Up Feb. 16-25

AUSTIN, Texas — Hoping to add to the mountain of the 19,930 derelict crab traps hauled from Texas bays over the last five years, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials are gearing up for the 6th Texas Abandoned Crab Trap Removal Program, running this year from February 16-25.

Flat Out Fishing Offers Tips for Novice and Expert Anglers

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will host the first of two special Flat Out Fishing events in Corpus Christi to help anglers start the new year with an edge. The fourth annual Flat Out Fishing event kicks off at 8 a.m., Sat., Jan. 27, at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The event will be held at the university’s Science and Technology Building in Room 104. The second event will be in Lake Jackson on February 24, 2007.

Improved Red Tide Response Tracks Decline of Texas Bloom

AUSTIN, Texas — A red tide event that lingered along the coastal bend for nearly a month appears to have largely subsided, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife officials.

Coastal Expos Set for Killeen, Kingsville, Victoria, Valley

KILLEEN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will host five upcoming Coastal Expos for the public, starting with events in Killeen Nov. 10–11 and Kingsville Nov. 16–18. Similar expos will take place Feb. 3 in Victoria, Feb. 10 in Harlingen and Feb. 22–24 in Edinburg.

Hayes Named Shikar-Safari Wildlife Officer of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas — Game Warden Randall Hayes of Weatherford has been named “Texas Wildlife Officer of the Year” by the wildlife conservation and hunting organization Shikar-Safari International.

Public Reefing Program, Offshore Aquaculture Regs Move Forward

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Nov. 2 adopted new rules that pave the way for a public reefing program in the state’s nearshore waters. In a separate action, the Commission voted to adopt regulations governing offshore aquaculture.
