TPWD Finalizes Hunting and Fishing Regulations for 2011-12

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopted hunting and fishing regulations for 2011-12 with relatively few changes. All amendments take effect Sept. 1, 2011.

April 6 Live Chat Puts Fisheries Pros Online for “Ask an Expert: Spring Fishing 2011”

AUSTIN – It’s spring spawning season for Texas freshwater fish and a great time to go fishing. In the second installment of a new "Ask An Expert" live chat series, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will host an online session noon-1 p.m., Wednesday, April 6 where freshwater fisheries experts will answer questions and talk about what’s biting, how to catch ‘em and where to go.

Trophy Bass Survey Proves Lake Fork Still a Prime Destination for Big Bass

ATHENS — Entries from Lake Fork into the Toyota ShareLunker Program have been overshadowed recently by reservoirs in other areas of the state, but the Lake Fork Trophy Bass Survey’s eight-year history shows that Lake Fork should remain on the list of any serious trophy bass hunter.

Outdoor Fools Day Offers Food, Fun and Outdoor Activities

ATHENS—Life’s better outside, especially during springtime in Texas. And nowhere will it be better on April 9 than at Outdoor Fools Day at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC).

February 2011 Crab Trap Removal Marks 10th Anniversary

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – It’s hard to imagine a pile of crusty old derelict crab traps stretching over 29,000 traps high, but that is where the tally stands after this past February marked the 10th anniversary of the Texas Abandoned Crab Trap Removal Program.

Catch a Fish a Day for One Year: Keith Miller’s Challenge

On April 1, avid amateur angler Keith Miller of Waco will start a year-long commitment to catch at least one fish daily for 365 consecutive days. The goal is to build awareness of the importance of connecting young people to the outdoors and developing future stewards of natural resources. Miller will use social media to share his experiences, and he plans a series of public fishing dates to spread awareness in various cities.

Louisiana and Texas Working to Standardize Boundary Fishing Regulations

ATHENS—A cooperative effort between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) to standardize fishing regulations on waters shared by the two states is nearing fruition.

Toyota ShareLunkers 521, 522 Come from Gilmer, Caddo

ATHENS—Gilmer Reservoir sent a new lake record largemouth bass to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) March 17, and the next day Caddo Lake sent the existing lake record largemouth to Athens for the second year in a row.
