Five Boat Ramp Projects Receive TPWD Grants

AUSTIN, Texas — Three coastal and two lake boating access projects will share more than $1.5 million in federal boating access grants. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the five construction and renovation projects at its Thursday, Aug. 24 public meeting.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Expo Celebrates 15 Years Oct. 7-8

AUSTIN, Texas — America’s largest free, family-oriented festival of the outdoors celebrates its 15 year anniversary at the Parks and Wildlife Headquarters in Austin on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7-8. The annual event that began as a tribute to hunting’s role in conservation in 1992 today includes fishing, shooting sports, state parks, Texas history, rock climbing, biking, birding, paddling and many other activities, all free to the public.

Satellite Tracking Study To Shed Light on Tarpon Migration

AUSTIN, Texas — For many a veteran angler, the pinnacle of a fishing career comes with the explosion of chromed muscle that signals his first tarpon hook-up. That experience was once common on the Texas Gulf coast; so common, in fact, that through the 1950s, tarpon tournaments were commonplace and presidents and potentates made the journey to the third coast to catch a “silver king.”

Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Season Opens July 10

AUSTIN — The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both state and federal waters will open 30 minutes after sunset on Monday, July 10, 2006. This opening date is based on an evaluation of the biological, social and economic information to maximize the benefits to the industry and the public.
