Red Snapper Season in Federal Water to Close September 2, 2022

AUSTIN- The private recreational angler red snapper season in federal waters will close at 11:59 p.m. Friday, September 2. Anglers may continue to harvest up to 4 red snapper per day with a 15-inch minimum length limit from Texas state waters.

TPWD, City of Hidalgo Team up to Expand Fishing Opportunities

AUSTIN — City of Hidalgo, using grant funding provided through a partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), has completed a series of projects to improve fish habitat and fishing access at Old Hidalgo Pumphouse Channel. The site is located directly adjacent to the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse Museum and World Birding Center.

Invasive Australian Redclaw Crayfish Present in Texas

BROWNSVILLE – Researchers from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley recently collected invasive Australian Redclaw Crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) at the first known site in Texas. From January–February, three specimens were collected at an apartment complex pond that connects to a nearby resaca in the Brownsville area.

Retired Florida Largemouth Bass Broodfish Headed to Rio Grande Valley Community Fishing Lakes

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries Division will stock several retired Florida largemouth bass broodfish into three Rio Grande Valley community fishing lakes in June. Dean Porter Park Resaca in Brownsville, Town Lake at Fireman’s Park in McAllen and the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse Channel in Hidalgo will receive these special fish.

AUSTIN – Anglers across Texas are marking their calendars and packing their tackle boxes for Free Fishing Day June 4. Each year on the first Saturday in June, Texans can fish on any public waterbody in the state without a fishing license.

Toyota ShareLunker Program Completes Monumental Collection Season

ATHENS – The 2022 Toyota ShareLunker collection season claimed its spot as one of the best in program history. Anglers contributed 24 ShareLunkers from nine different lakes across the state, surpassing 2021’s impressive total of 23 Legacy fish. This season nearly matched 1995’s program record of 27 during a January through March collection timespan.

Federal Red Snapper Season Opens June 1 with new DESCEND Act regulations

AUSTIN- The private recreational angler red snapper season in federal water opens Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Red snapper fishing is open year around in state waters. Bag and size limits will remain unchanged. The regulations are 2 fish per person daily with a 16-inch minimum size limit in federal waters, and 4 fish per person daily with a 15-inch minimum in state waters. Red snapper caught in federal waters count as part of the state bag limit of 4 fish. No more than 2 red snapper in federal waters and 4 red snapper in state waters may be in your possession while fishing.
