ATHENS–The Texas State-Fish Art Contest, headquartered at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC), reminds Texas teachers and students that the deadline for entries in the 2016 State-Fish Art Contest is March 31, 2016.

Lavaca Bay to be Closed to Oyster Harvest Effective January 23

AUSTIN – Areas TX-19, 20 and 21 of Lavaca Bay will be closed to all oyster harvest effective January 23, 2016 due to low abundance of oysters in these areas. Chapter 76, Parks and Wildlife Code, and the Oyster Management Proclamation, Section 58.21(c)(1), provide for the emergency closure of an area to oyster harvesting when it can be shown that the area is being overworked or damaged.

Family Fishing Opportunities Expand at Travis County Park East of Austin

AUSTIN—One of Travis County’s newest parks now offers a new Neighborhood Fishin’ lake that will increase fishing access for youth and families living in the Austin metropolitan area.

Rainbow Trout Coming to Tyler’s Nature Center

TYLER — The East Texas Woods and Waters Foundation (ETWWF) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will host two special fishing events in January 2016. Two thousand rainbow trout will be stocked into The Nature Center pond to provide a free fishing opportunity for area youth and their adult fishing mentors. Event dates are January 2 and 9, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., rain or shine.
