Commission Approves Public Hunting at 44 State Parks

AUSTIN, Texas — One-third of the sites in the Texas state parks system will offer public hunting opportunities for the 2004-05 hunting season. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its May 27 public meeting approved the 44 sites.

Proposal Would Allow Permitted Control of Cormorants

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is proposing a new program under which managers of private ponds and lakes would be issued permits to control the double-crested cormorant, a fish-eating bird that some anglers and landowners consider a nuisance.

AUSTIN, Texas — Hunting accidents are relatively few nowadays, thanks mainly to safety skills gained from hunter education. Last year there were only 44 hunting-related mishaps in Texas among a hunting population of more than one million, and a majority of those incidents could be considered minor. Some were not.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has adopted new options and incentives for private landowners who actively practice white-tailed deer management, including the elimination of "double tagging" and an extension of hunting seasons.

Dove Zone Shift Tops List of Migratory Bird Proposals

AUSTIN, Texas — Additional white-winged dove hunting opportunity near San Antonio and a proactive alternative to restrictive "seasons within a season" on certain duck species top the list of possible changes to this year’s Texas migratory game bird hunting regulations.
