TPWD Proposing Late Shift to South Zone Dove Season

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is proposing moving the South Zone second split of dove season deeper into January, but otherwise is recommending minimal changes to the 2008-09 Early Migratory Game Bird Proclamation.

Mentored Hunts to Provide Opportunities for Newcomers

AUSTIN, Texas — A new public hunting opportunity for newcomers, the Mentored Hunting Permit (MHP), will launch this fall. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the new hunter recruitment initiative at its May 22 public meeting.

LAMPS Antlerless Deer Permit Applications Available

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is now accepting applications for Landowner Assisted Management Permitting System (LAMPS) antlerless deer permits for the 2008-2009 hunting season. The LAMPS program was initiated in 1993 to offer East Texas landowners and hunters additional opportunities for harvesting antlerless deer.

Free Web Service Connects Hunters With Places To Hunt

AUSTIN, Texas — Research surveys show that finding a place to hunt is a barrier for many people in today’s Texas, which is why Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has created the Hunt Texas Online Connection, a new, free Web service that allows anyone to view hunting opportunities posted by private landowners across the state.

Texas Youth Target Shooting Gala Event Set June 21

DALLAS — Young target shooters from across Texas and their families are invited to spend a day of fun and competitive target shooting during the first annual Texas Youth Invitational June 21 at the Elm Fork Shooting Sports complex.

Small Acreage Land Management Workshop Offered June 7 in Alpine

ALPINE, Texas — For more than a century, rural Texas land has been owned mainly by farm and ranch families who lived there. In recent decades, the countryside has been fragmented into smaller tracts owned increasingly by former urban dwellers or absentee owners seeking closeness to the remaining pastoral lands of Texas. A workshop to be held June 7 will help West Texas landowners learn more about managing for wildlife habitat on smaller properties between two and 2,000 acres.
