Halloween at the Hatchery Set for Oct. 27 at TFFC

ATHENS – Families are in for a treat Thursday, Oct. 27 at the annual “Halloween at the Hatchery” event hosted by the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC). The annual event provides a safe place to go trick-or-treating while raising money for three local beneficiaries, The Rainbow Room, East Texas Crisis Center and the Athens High School Fishing Team.

AUSTIN— The Centennial Celebration of Texas State Parks is right around the corner, and park lovers are invited to get outside and join celebrations across the state. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) will celebrate 100 years of Texas State Parks beginning January 2023.

ATHENS – Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is hosting “The Sunfish Showdown” tournament Sept. 24 in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day. The event, scheduled for 8 a.m.-1 p.m., offers a day of fun for the whole family.

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Community Archery Program is teaming up with Guadalupe River State Park Sept. 24 to help the public “Explore Bowhunting” during National Hunting and Fishing Day. The event gives participants an opportunity to learn more about bowhunting going into a brand-new season.

TPWD, City of Hidalgo Team up to Expand Fishing Opportunities

AUSTIN — City of Hidalgo, using grant funding provided through a partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), has completed a series of projects to improve fish habitat and fishing access at Old Hidalgo Pumphouse Channel. The site is located directly adjacent to the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse Museum and World Birding Center.

Palo Duro to Begin Closing Four Trails During Extreme Heat Days for Visitor’s Safety

CANYON—To curb the risk for heat exposure to visitors, Palo Duro Canyon State Park will begin closing select trails between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. when the National Weather Service issues heat advisories for the area.
