Texas Parks and Wildlife Partners with City of Abilene for “Abilene Outdoor Adventures 2021”

ABILENE – Mark your calendars and gear up for Saturday, June 5 to participate in Abilene Outdoor Adventures 2021 at Cal Young Park in Abilene. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is teaming up with the City of Abilene to host the free event that is open to participants of all ages. Since June 5 is Free Fishing Day in Texas, anyone can fish even if they don’t have a fishing license.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Announces Inaugural “Spring Spawning Run”

ATHENS — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is hosting the first statewide virtual 5K “Spring Spawning Run” to celebrate the fish spawning season and recognize the importance of state fish hatchery efforts to enhance the fisheries resources and fishing opportunities for more than two million anglers in Texas. This year’s 5k run will take place virtually the entire month of May, which means participants can show their support from anywhere in the state at their own pace.

Sixth Annual Texas City Nature Challenge Encourages Citizen Scientists to Record Nature Observations

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), through the Texas Nature Trackers program, is inviting Texans to participate in the sixth annual City Nature Challenge, Friday, April 30 through Monday, May 3. This global community-based scientific effort, co-organized by San Francisco’s California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, invites current and aspiring citizen scientists of all ages and backgrounds to observe and submit pictures of wild plants, animals and fungi using the free mobile app iNaturalist.

April Marks 10th Anniversary of State Parks Month at Whole Earth Provision Co.

AUSTIN— Throughout the month of April, Whole Earth Provision Co. will hold a fund drive at all six store locations across the state in support of Texas State Parks. The Texas-based travel, adventure and nature store will give all funds gathered during the effort to help fund state parks’ day-to-day operational expenses, including enhanced visitor programs, park trail maps and facilities maintenance. This State Parks Month marks 10 years of partnership between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Whole Earth Provision Co.

Toyota ShareLunker Program Boasts 2nd Triple Lunker Day of 2021 Season, 5th Over 15 Pounds

ATHENS – Anglers delivered three more Legacy Lunkers last Tuesday followed by a fourth Sunday during the final weekend of the 2021 Toyota ShareLunker season. Tuesday marked the second triple Lunker day of the season, with O.H. Ivie producing the first two Lunkers of the day, extending an incredible run that has bumped the season total for that lake to 12.

Toyota ShareLunker Program Chalks Up Two More Legacy Lunkers

ATHENS – Anglers added two more Legacy Lunkers to the 2021 Toyota ShareLunker season totals over the weekend. The run at O.H. Ivie powered on, reaching double digits with 10 Legacy Lunkers this year courtesy of ShareLunker 603 Friday. On Saturday, Lake Tyler made a huge splash with ShareLunker 604, recording the first ever entry for the lake in the ShareLunker program.

March Brings Another Run of ShareLunkers, Including a Triple Crown from O.H. Ivie and Milestone ShareLunker 600

ATHENS – The Legacy Lunkers continue to roll in with a run of five over last weekend, including three from O.H. Ivie, giving the lake nine during the 2021 Toyota ShareLunker season. The program had a run of eight in just over a week’s time to close out February, with six being landed at O.H. Ivie.

Los Parques Estatales Trabajan para Regresar a Capacidad Normal

AUSTIN- Los Parques Estatales de Texas han iniciado un proceso estratégico y bien pensado para aumentar la capacidad en todo el estado, en seguimiento a las recientes órdenes del Gobernador Greg Abbott para reabrir, lo que permitirá que más texanos tengan oportunidad de visitar sus parques favoritos.  Es altamente recomendado que los visitantes sigan usando las mascarillas, sobre todo cuando estén en interiores o en las áreas donde sea difícil mantener el distanciamiento social.  Se han eliminado las restricciones en cuanto al tamaño de los grupos.
