HOUSTON – The U.S. Green Building Council has cited the 7,000-square-foot headquarters of the Texas State Parks’ regional offices at Sheldon Lake State Park for its exceptional “green” architectural design that incorporates a number of cost-efficient and energy-saving features.
BURNET – Thanks to a newly constructed bird blind at Inks Lake State Park, visitors now have the chance to quietly observe birds flitting from tree to tree, perch on a feeder or sing to other birds.
MERIDIAN – The public is invited to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Meridian State Park on Saturday, Oct. 4, and find out what’s new at the park, visit exhibitors, take a hay ride, enjoy live music and stick around for a star party.
ATHENS—Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) and Suddenlink have teamed up to bring family-friendly fishing to Tyler.
AUSTIN — Sgt. Maj. Milton M. Holland, the first Texas recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, will be honored posthumously on Sept. 27 at the Texas Capitol. The ceremony, being presented by the Texas Buffalo Soldiers in partnership with the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday on the south steps of the Capitol with a posting of colors by TPWD’s buffalo soldiers.
AUSTIN – With cool weather around the corner, the Texas Outdoor Family program has scheduled outdoor recreational workshops statewide though the beginning of December. The workshops offer a low-cost weekend trip where families can un-plug, reconnect with nature, and learn the basics of camping.
