Fairfield Lake State Park to Close Permanently Feb. 28

AUSTIN— After more than 50 years of public use and outdoor recreation by Texas families, Fairfield Lake State Park will permanently close to the public Feb. 28. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) was notified by its lessor, Vistra, the owner of the site, that the land lease for Fairfield Lake State Park was terminated due to the impending sale of the property. Texas State Parks has 120 days to vacate the state park before it is turned over to the new owner, Todd Interests.

Texas State Parks Starts 100-Year Birthday Celebration with 7,923 First Day Hikers

AUSTIN— Nearly 8,000 participants shattered the previous attendance record New Year’s Day by ringing in Texas State Parks’ 100th birthday with a First Day Hike. Texans across the state traveled to one of the 83 participating parks and hiked, biked and paddled a combined 17,190 miles.

EL PASO – Franklin Mountains State Park will host a special event from 3-5 p.m. Feb 3 to open its Texas State Parks: A Fresh Take on Classic Views poster exhibit, hosted at the Tom Mays Visitor Center located inside the park.

Texas State Parks Celebrating 100 Years with Special Events throughout 2023

AUSTIN— The Centennial Celebration of Texas State Parks kicked off on Jan. 1 with First Day Hikes at every state park in Texas.  To commemorate 100 years, every state park will host at least one special event during the 2023 Centennial year. In January, state parks in North Texas and on the coast will host rainbow trout kid fishing events. Everyone is invited to join in the fun.

Traveling Art Exhibit Honors 100 Years of Texas State Parks

AUSTIN— In honor of the Centennial Celebration of Texas State Parks, the Bullock Texas State History Museum will host a new traveling art exhibit Jan. 7 — April 30. “The Art of Texas State Parks” is a visual arts survey of state parks featuring more than 30 parks by some of Texas’ most celebrated artists. The exhibit will travel to several museums later this year, including the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Panhandle Plains Museum in Canyon.

Parques Estatales de Texas Arranca la Celebración del Centenario con Excursiones del Día Primero

AUSTIN — ¡Tres, dos, uno! ¡Feliz Aniversario, Parques Estatales de Texas! Los amantes de los parques en todo el estado están invitados a ayudarles a los Parques Estatales de Texas a empezar su celebración de 100 años, este 1º de enero, con una Excursión del Día Primero.  Casi todos los Parques Estatales de Texas serán anfitriones este día primero para caminatas autoguiadas o guiadas con guarda forestal, paseos en bicicleta y en bote de remos y zambullidas del oso polar, todo en honor de la iniciativa nacional enfocada en hacer que las personas disfruten la naturaleza.
