Applications Being Accepted for Texas Game Warden, State Park Police Cadet Class

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is building its next generation of elite state law enforcement officers with the 64th Texas Game Warden and State Park Police Cadet class. Applications are being accepted Oct. 15-Nov. 15.

Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site Hosts 25th Annual Interpretive Fair Oct. 19, 20

EL PASO, TX – Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site invites the public to come celebrate its 25th Annual Interpretive Fair Saturday, Oct. 19, 8 a.m. — 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. All park entrance fees will be waived, and the event is free to attend.

Celebrate Halloween with the Fishes at The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Oct. 24

ATHENS – East Texas families can get more treats than tricks at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center’s Halloween at the Hatchery event. The annual event provides a safe place to go trick-or-treating while raising money for local causes including the East Texas Crisis Center, Henderson County Rainbow Room, and the Athens High School Bass Fishing Team.

Texas Boating Law Administrator Elected NASBLA Chairman

LEXINGTON, KY – During its 60th annual meeting, held in Anchorage, Alaska, Sept. 29 – Oct. 2, 2019, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) elected Asst. Commander Game Warden Cody Jones, Boating Law Administrator for Texas, as Chairman of the nonprofit organization for the 2019-2020 year. He succeeds Mark Brown, Oklahoma’s Boating Law Administrator. NASBLA is a national nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that works to develop public policy for recreational boating safety. NASBLA represents the recreational boating authorities of all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

Enjoy Witchin’ Halloween Events Throughout October at a Texas State Park

AUSTIN— Polish the cauldrons and dust off those brooms, Texas State Parks are getting extra spooky this October for some scary-fun events happening throughout the month. A variety of family-friendly Halloween events are scheduled for ghouls and goblins of all ages, including zombie apocalypse hikes, jack-o’-lantern scavenger hunts, trick-or-treating at the park and spooky campfire stories, just to name a few.

Catch the Buzz with Texas’ Fourth Annual Pollinator BioBlitz

AUSTIN — For the next two weeks, Texans are invited to take part in the fourth statewide Pollinator BioBlitz. The goal of the BioBlitz, which runs from Oct. 4-20, is to raise awareness of the diversity and importance of pollinators while bringing greater attention to the critical habitat needs of monarchs and native pollinators across the state.

Neighborhood Fishin’ Program in Abilene Coming to an End, Remaining Stockings Diverted to Cal Young Park

ABILENE – Catfish stockings scheduled for this fall to support the Neighborhood Fishin’ Program in the Abilene-area are being moved to Cal Young Park Lake from Grover Nelson Small Pond for the rest of the 2019 stocking season. At the conclusion of the program’s catfish stocking season, which is Nov. 1, the Neighborhood Fishin’ Program will be ending in Abilene. These changes are being made because of ongoing water quality and depredation issues at Grover Nelson Small Pond and the decision to end the program was a mutual decision between the city and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
