Public Access Lease Opening for Guadalupe River Trout Fishing

AUSTIN — Texas anglers have access to a premier location for rainbow trout fishing during the peak of the winter stocking season thanks to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) “no fee” access lease on the Guadalupe River.

Rainbow Trout Stocking Returns to Texas Waters Nov. 26

AUSTIN – Just in time for the holiday season, rainbow trout arrives at waterbodies across the state for the annual Texas winter tradition of trout fishing. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will begin stocking thousands of rainbow trout Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving.

TPWD to Host Public Scoping Meeting on Fisheries Management in the Colorado River Basin Following July Floods

BUCHANAN DAM – On Nov. 17, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Inland Fisheries Division, along with the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corporation (LBCC), will host a public meeting at Hill Country Hall to discuss impacts of the July floods on fisheries resources in the Colorado River basin,  fisheries management plans to support flood recovery and listen to public input.

Federal Red Snapper Season Closes November 21

AUSTIN- The 2025 recreational red snapper season in federal waters will close at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, making this the longest federal red snapper season since 2007. Saltwater anglers enjoyed 173 days of offshore red snapper fishing along the Texas coast this year.

HUNT – On Oct. 27, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Inland Fisheries Division will host a public meeting at the Kerr Wildlife Management Area to discuss impacts of the July floods on fisheries resources in Kerr County, present fisheries management plans for the Guadalupe River and local community fishing lakes to support flood recovery and invite public input.

Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center Celebrates 100 Years

MOUNTAIN HOME – In May 1925, the Heart of the Hills State Fish Hatchery, now known as Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center, was born in the Texas Hill Country. One hundred years later, the hatchery continues to play an important role in ensuring the science-based management and conservation of freshwater fisheries in Texas.

TPWD Announces Habitat and Angler Access Program Projects for 2026-27

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has chosen 11 new projects to be supported by the Habitat and Angler Access Program (HAAP) during its 2026-27 funding cycle. Launched in summer 2021, the Habitat and Angler Access Program is primarily funded by the purchase of freshwater fishing licenses.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center to Reopen Oct. 8

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) will reopen Oct. 8 following the completion of emergency repairs to a steel structural support column in the main visitor center building. The visitor center has remained closed since emergency repairs began in early August.
