Program Timeline

  • June 2021: Application period re-opens for all communities
  • December 6, 2021: 2021 Bird City applications due
  • December 31, 2021: Annual report due for currently certified communities

Application Process

Application for Bird City Certification is an online application that must be submitted by December. The Program Goal and Structure document describes the philosophy of the Bird City Texas program and the Detailed Criteria List is the full set of actions/activities that a community can use to become certified.

Applicants will submit the fillable application which includes spaces for supplemental information about each criterion selected. Communities may get credit for activities that occurred in the 18-month period ending in December 31, 2021 for their application and must also include a commitment to meet all requirements in calendar years 2022-2024.

Important note: Applications must be submitted online through the application portal by the December 6, 2021 deadline.

Step 1: Complete fillable application, including the following elements:

  • Application point of contact
  • Community data
  • Letter from a municipal executive supporting application
  • List members of a collaborative body that guides a community’s application and implementation
  • Application activity: description of completed actions and future commitments

Step 2: Attach supplemental material as needed within each application activity selected within the online application.

Step 3: Communities are able to edit and add to their applications for as long as they need to before the application deadline, but all applications must be officially submitted by December 6, 2021 for consideration in this project year.
