  • Meet the Texas SWAP App: a new way to explore Texas wildlife
  • Texas wildlife, up close: a new conservation app for everyone

Texas is home to an amazing variety of wildlife, from familiar backyard birds to species most Texans have never heard of. Texas Parks and Wildlife has a new way to explore that natural heritage: the Texas State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) App, a public, easy-to-use website at www.txswap.org.

The SWAP is Texas’ roadmap for conserving rare and declining wildlife and the habitats they rely on. In the past, SWAPs were often long documents that were hard to search and even harder to use. The new SWAP App makes it simple to explore species, learn what threatens them, and see the kinds of actions that can help.

You can browse by animal type, habitat, or region, and you can click into a species page to see photos, basic information, habitat notes, and recommended conservation actions. Whether you are a student, a teacher, a nature lover, or someone who just enjoys seeing wildlife in your neighborhood, the SWAP App is a great starting point.

There is also a way for everyday Texans to contribute. The app includes Nature Notes, where anyone can share observations and field-based insights by creating a free account. Those notes help build a richer picture of species and habitats over time.

Try it out: Visit www.txswap.org, explore a few species you recognize, then look up one you have never heard of. If you use the app for a class, club talk, or neighborhood nature project, share how you used it with #TXSWAP.
