Briefing
Eastern Wild Turkey Restoration
Program
January 2004
I. Executive Summary: The
eastern wild turkey was
extirpated from east Texas
during the early 1900s.
At that time, the Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department
initiated a project to restore
the eastern wild turkey
to available habitat in
east Texas. This project
has been very successful
and most of the suitable
eastern wild turkey habitat
in east Texas has been stocked.
