Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an ant? In this interactive program*, learn about the intricacies of a leafcutter ant colony and see for yourself how much work goes in to maintaining a fungus farm!
The Texas leafcutter ant is one of 55 leafcutter ant species in the world, and one of the most unique and hardworking organisms residing in Goliad State Park! Did you know that leafcutter ants carry plant material that is 3 to 4 times their own weight? All day long, the ants work to bring fresh cut leaf fragments back to the nest, which are then used to help grow a fungus that provides food for the whole colony! Leafcutter ants are eusocial, which means they are organized into caste systems where each ant has a specific role and purpose within the colony. Come learn how ants communicate, gather plant material, and more in The Ants Go Marching - only at Goliad State Park!
