First Day Hikes

This is an event you won't want to miss!

Be a part of a National movement to get people into State Parks! Join Government Canyon State Natural Area Volunteers for a hike  on the first day of the year. No matter which hike you choose, you will be able to boast being one of the First Visitors to enjoy the trails of Government Canyon in 2019. Here are the available activities for 2019:

9:00AM – 1PM   Hike Far Reaches/Wildcat Canyon Trails…about 6-7 miles round trip...moderate-to-challenging

10:00AM – 1PM Hike Bluff Spurs Trail…about 3 miles round trip...easy-to-moderate

10:00AM – 1PM Hike Savannah Loop Trail…about 2 25 miles round trip...easy

NOON – 4PM Hike Far Reaches/Sendero Balcones Trails …about 6-7 miles round trip...moderate-to-challenging

Savannah Loop Hike open to all ages; Far Reaches and Bluff Spurs hikes open to ages 13 and above. All minors on hikes must be accompanied by an adult; each hike group size limited to the first 12 people who register. No pets please on any of these hikes. All participants should be in generally good physical health and able to hike over rugged, rocky terrain with changes in elevation. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes; bring two liters of water and a snack per person.  Reservations are required and may be made through noon on December 31, 2018.  Sorry, no group reservations.  Reserve your spot online at http://friendsofgovernmentcanyon.org/events/.  Please register each person individually.
