Night Hike

6:00p to 8:00p
Fri, November 28, 2025
Lisa Cole
(210) 688-9055, x2010

Sunset can transform a familiar trail into a new environment with sights and sounds not experienced during daylight.

Take a walk down the Discovery Trail with a Ranger. We hope to hear owls hooting, view the night sky, and enjoy the peace of a late fall forest after dark.

Who Is Invited:

This hike is open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Reservations required! Reserve your spot at the Friends of Government Canyon website. Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Where to Meet:

Meet at the Rainwater Tower outside the Visitor Center. Lots A & B will have the closest parking. The hike will leave promptly at 6:00 pm, so please plan to arrive a little early.

How to Prepare:

Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! You must also register at the Friends of GCSNA website linked above.

Dress for hiking outdoors. Bring layers that can be added as the evening cools. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Bring a bottle of water for each person.

If ADA assistance is required, please request modifications using this form, or email accessibility@tpwd.texas.gov at least 2 weeks in advance.

Cancellation:

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
