First Day Self-Guided Hike

Begin your New Year on a trail!

Celebrate the arrival of 2026 in your favorite state park! Meet our park volunteers at the Devil's waterhole trailhead where they will have some great information and perhaps even a warm beverage to keep you cozy as you hit the trail. 

Difficulty: Easy to moderate with limited elevation gain.

Length: This trailhead offers 3 roundtrip options. You can take the easy 0.4 mile trail to the Devils Waterhole, extend your trip by another mile along the Valley Spring Creek trail, or challenge yourself by tackling the 3.5 mile roundtrip trek along the Devil's backbone trail.

Bring: Warm layers, water, and your favorite friends and family! 

Cost: Free with park admission. Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass. Purchase day passes online ahead of time to guarantee entry.
