Ranch Life Hike
Sat, July 25, 2026
Join a ranger to learn more about the ranching heritage of Lost Maples State Natural Area!
Lost Maples is celebrating National Day of the Cowboy by exploring some of our own ranching history! Explore some ranching relics that might be easy to overlook as we walk down the East-West Trail.
All ages are welcome to join us on our hike. This will be an easy 1-mile walk to the Pond and back for a 2-mile roundtrip. This trail is not wheelchair, walker, stroller, or wagon accessible. There are some shallow water crossings with stepping-stones and the terrain is often rocky. The trail is wide with several shaded parts, but make sure to bring sun protection and lots of water! There is no drinking water or restroom on the trail or at the Pond.
When: July 25 at 9:00 a.m. We plan to end no later than 10:30 a.m.
Where: The overflow parking area in front of the Murphy House.
Bring: Lots of water, sturdy, comfortable hiking clothes and shoes, sunscreen and a hat, and bug spray if desired. Please bring at least two liters/64oz of water, as we will likely walk for over an hour. Bring any other items you may want for your own comfort on our hike, like snacks.
Cost: This program is free with admission to the park. Day passes are $6 per person 13 and older. Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass.
Note: This program may be cancelled due to the weather. If cancelled, this posting will be updated. Please contact park staff for weather updates and more information.
