What's a Quadrat?
The quadrat is used when a study area is too large to count, estimate, or study. A quadrat allows one to shrink the study area into randomly selected sites and use those sites as representative of the whole study area. Quadrats can be of any size and shape as long as you are able to calculate its area. Even a hula hoop will work!
This quadrat is constructed of PVC piping and fittings commonly found in home improvement stores. Rather than joining them with glue, they are held together with bungee cord, enabling it to be collapsed for easy storage and transport.
