Welcome to Get Outside

Get Outside is a statewide outreach program led by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) that connects children, families, and communities with nature through hands-on outdoor experiences.

Each year, our team partners with event hosts across Texas to deliver engaging activities for youth ages 6–17 and their families.  Through interactive learning and outdoor recreation, Get Outside helps inspire a lifelong appreciation for nature and encourages stewardship of Texas’ natural and cultural resources.

Whether you’re discovering the outdoors for the first time or building on existing interests, Get Outside offers meaningful opportunities to learn, explore, and connect.

What We Do

Get Outside brings outdoor education directly to communities by offering fun, interactive activities such as:

  • Archery
  • Fishing
  • Camping skills
  • Outdoor and conservation education

These experiences are designed to be inclusive, educational, and accessible for participants of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Volunteer With Get Outside

Volunteers play a vital role in the success of Get Outside events across Texas.

Join TPWD staff and fellow volunteers as we travel the state introducing families and youth to outdoor recreation and conservation.  Volunteers assist with hands-on activities and help share how TPWD manages and conserves Texas’ natural and cultural resources.

No prior experience is required. We’re looking for individuals with a positive attitude, a willingness to engage with the public, and an interest in helping inspire the next generation of outdoor stewards.

Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a variety of volunteer roles to match different comfort levels and skill sets. Volunteering with Get Outside is a great way to:

  • Support youth and families
  • Learn new outdoor skills
  • Gain hands-on outreach experience
  • Build connections with TPWD staff and partners
  • Give back to your community
