Description

The Teacup Mountain Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in the central Rolling Plains along the boundary between Foard County and Hardeman County, Texas. Teacup Mountain Wildlife Management Area is managed under a conservation agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The WMA consists of 11,091 acres of rough break escarpments, intermittent creeks, mesquite and juniper uplands, and the river floodplain of the Pease River.

Outdoor recreational opportunities at Teacup Mountain WMA consist of hunting, fishing, hiking, bird watching, biking, camping, nature study and photography. The WMA is open to walk-in access and visitors must register via eOSR at the WMA entrance. All visitors, 17 years old and older, must possess an Annual Public Hunting APH Permit or a Limited Public Use LPU Permit, which can be purchased from any license vendor. Visitors under the age of 17 years old must be accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older in possession of one of the previously mentioned permits.

Common wildlife species at Teacup Mountain WMA include bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, white-tailed deer, feral hogs, coyotes, bobcats and a vast array of grassland bird and herpetofauna species. This WMA is in the eastern extent of the range of mule deer, and this species might be observed occasionally.

The purpose of management for the Teacup Mountain Wildlife Management Area is to provide public use opportunity, study wildlife populations and practice stewardship of rangeland resources.

Water is not available on the WMA and due to the remote and rugged terrain, visitors should be prepared to bring their own water and be cognizant of weather conditions, communications and exercise capabilities.
