SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today awarded more than $6.8 million in competitive grants for city and county parks, ball parks, swimming pools, nature trails and other outdoor recreation facilities across the state.

Land Purchase Okay Will Expand Garner State Park

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today gave the go-ahead for the purchase of a 113.5-acre tract of ranch land contiguous to the southern boundary of Garner State Park in Uvalde County.

$3.3 Million in Trails Grants Awarded by TPW Commission

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on Aug. 26 approved approximately $3.3 million for 23 National Recreational Trail Grant projects in communities across the state, as well as in 8 state parks and a wildlife management area. Included in the funding amount was $25,000 awarded to Texas 4-H for an All-Terrain-Vehicle safety program.

Kerr WMA Conference Center to be Dedicated Aug. 27

KERRVILLE – A new, $1.8 million conference center to be dedicated Aug. 27 at the Kerr Wildlife Management Area will provide Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with a quality venue for presenting habitat management and ecological programs to thousands of landowners, students and researchers.

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has scheduled a full slate of Texas Outdoor Family workshops this fall designed to introduce even more families to the ease and joy of camping in one of dozens of Texas state parks.

New Texas State Parks Director Named

AUSTIN — Brent Leisure, a 26-year veteran of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, has been named director of Texas State Parks. A regional parks director for almost seven years, Leisure will assume his new duties as leader of the agency’s State Parks Division effective Sept. 1.
