How to Volunteer with Texas State Parks

How-to guide to navigating TPWD's Volunteer Management System.

Start by Finding an Opportunity.

Find an opportunity

Specific opportunity or park

Graphic showing volunteer system webpageAre you look­ing for a spe­cif­ic op­por­tu­nity or a spe­cif­ic park? Use the Search by Keyword function.

You can search by job type (host, inter­pre­tation, maintenance, etc.) or park name (Garner, Copper Breaks, etc.). Use a com­bi­na­tion of words to narrow your results (Colorado Bend Park Host). Click Search.

Specific area

Are you looking for opportunities within a certain area? Try one of these options:

  • Click on the region of interest on the map.
  • Select Within how many miles and enter your postal code. You can also select a Job Category, if you'd like. Click Search
  • Select a Job Category from the drop-down menu, then select a Region from the drop-down menu. Click Search.

Specific category

Are you looking for a specific type of job?

Choose a Job Category from the drop-down menu. Click Search to see all opportunities in that category.

Results

Scroll down to see a list of results. (If you don't get results, change your search terms and try again.)

  • Click on a blue Opportunity Title to see more details of that job.
  • Get all the details and requirements by clicking on De­scrip­tion, Loca­tion, Con­tact Info, and Additional tabs. Still have questions? Call or email the con­tact listed under the Contact Info.
  • Not the right opportunity? Click Back to results to return to your search.

Apply to volunteer

Once you find the right opportunity, the next step is to sign up!

If you have volunteered in parks before, click Sign Up and you'll be prompted to sign in.

If this is your first time to volunteer, click Apply to become a volunteer.

Complete the Application

  1. Page 1:  Read the Waivers and Agreements page carefully and complete all fields. Criminal back­ground checks are required for most ongoing opportunities.
  2. Page 2: Create your user ID and password. You will use this ID and password to log in and report your volunteer hours and apply for other opportunities. Complete the Personal and Contact Information fields.
  3. Page 3: Enter languages other than English that you can speak, read or write and complete Work History & Experience and Emergency Contact Information fields.
  4. Page 4: Answer the Other questions and complete Ethnic Background (optional).
  5. Page 5: Provide a digital signature. Read the information carefully and push Accept and Finish to submit the application.

Now what?

Your application will be sent to the coor­di­nator of the opportunity. They will contact you to discuss your application.

If you don't hear back within a week, call or email the coordinator (contact information is listed under the Contact Info tab of the opportunity)
