Planning a Field Trip

Students sit on the floor listening to a presenterOrganizing a field trip to Palo Duro Canyon is simple—the following steps will help your visit run smoothly and ensure your group gets the most out of the experience.

Step 1: Plan Ahead

  • Explore our website for helpful information, including directions and maps. Check out our Helpful Info for Group Visits and if possible, visit the park ahead of time.
  • Browse our selection of field trip programs. Contact us if you’d like more information.
  • Consider your group’s age and size. For larger groups, we may recommend splitting into multiple visits. Some programs have limited capacity.
  • Submit your request at least one month in advance (two or more months is even better). Date flexibility is always helpful!

Step 2: Contact the Park

Email the park to get started. When you reach out, please include:

  • A preferred date (and a backup, if possible)
  • The age range and number of students
  • Any details that will help us plan the best experience for your group

Step 3: Approval

We may contact you for more details or to discuss program options. Once approved, we’ll send a confirmation email with trip details.

Step 4: You’re All Set!

As your visit approaches, feel free to contact us with any questions, changes or cancellations. We recommend sharing your itinerary, expectations and park/group rules with chaperones ahead of time.

A few days before your trip, we’ll reach out again to confirm arrival details and group numbers.
