Screwworm Notice
June 13, 2026 - The park is within an infested zone for the new world screwworm. For the safety of animals and to prevent the spread of this dangerous pest:
- Horses are not allowed in the park
- If you bring pets, inspect them daily for cuts, wounds and signs of infestation.
If you see animals with unusual wounds or maggots, do not move them. Let someone know where you saw them:
- For pets/livestock: Contact park staff or the Animal Health Commission at (737) 900-7455.
- For wildlife: Contact park staff or call (512) 389-4505.
Construction Alerts
April 3, 2026 - We are replacing several water fountains with accessible water bottle refill stations. There may not be drinking water at trailheads during this project.
Please use caution around construction areas and follow posted signs and fencing.
Trail Closures
Dec. 4, 2025 - Lower Ghost Camp Trail is closed due to flood damage. Observe closure signs for your safety.
Hunt Closures
Some areas of the park will be closed for wildlife management activities on the following dates:
- Oct. 23-25, Nov. 20-22: All trails south of the Burkett Trailhead and the Isabel Harte and Red Arroyo camping areas will close at 5 p.m. the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 8 a.m. the day after the hunt ends.
- Nov. 3-5, Dec. 1-3: All trails north of the Burkett Trailhead and the North Concho and Riverbend camping areas will close at 5 p.m. the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2 p.m. the day the hunt ends.
- Jan. 12-14, 2027: All trails north and west of the Red Arroyo Camping Area, and Isabel Harte, North Concho and Riverbend camping areas will close at 5 p.m. the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2 p.m. the day the hunt ends.
North Shore Gate Locked
Look for the gate code on your entry receipt or check in at the South gatehouse (362 S. FM 2288).
