Commission Agenda Item No. 10
Presenter: Lana Marbach

Action
Land Acquisition—Gonzales County
Palmetto State Park
August 22, 2013

  1. Executive Summary: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has been offered approximately 11 acres of land as an addition to Palmetto State Park (SP).
  2. Discussion: TPWD staff has been contacted by an adjacent landowner offering to sell his property as an addition to Palmetto SP. The property is approximately 11 acres and borders the southwestern boundary of the Park. The tract has .25 miles of frontage along FM 2091 and Park Road 11 at the entrance to the campgrounds. Acquisition of the property would preserve the entrance and recently enhanced trail system, as well as provide additional primitive camping opportunities to overnight visitors. This acquisition would be a joint venture using TPWD land acquisition funds and a donation from the Friends of Palmetto State Park.
  3. Recommendation: The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:
“The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorizes the Executive Director to take all necessary steps to acquire approximately 11 acres in Gonzales County for addition to Palmetto State Park.”
