20th Anniversary of the Freshwater Fish Stamp
I. Executive Summary:
Staff will brief the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on the history of freshwater fisheries enhancements supported by revenues from the Texas freshwater fish stamp.
II. Discussion:
Originally established by the 78th Texas Legislature in 2004, the Texas freshwater fish stamp has generated over $130 million in funding dedicated to the enhancement of freshwater fisheries resources. This includes bank and shoreline-based angler access improvements; restoration and enhancement of fish habitats; construction and renovation of fish hatcheries and other facilities used to manage and conserve freshwater fisheries resources; production of fish at the state’s five freshwater fish hatcheries; and the purchase of additional fish from private hatcheries, as needed, for stocking in public waters. Staff will profile completed, active, and planned projects supported by the freshwater fish stamp funds.
