Why do fish swim together? A group of fish swimming together is called a "school."

What would be some good reasons to swim together?

  1. To escape a predator. You just need to swim faster than the fish next to you. Plus, you have lots of buddies who are all watching out for a predator.
  2. To find food more easily. Lots of eyes are looking for food and you can follow the leader.
  3. To find a mate.
  4. To swim more easily. Some scientists believe that schools of fish help the water flow making it easier to swim.
