Frequently Asked Questions

Hunting

Is a hunting lease contract really necessary and, if so, where can I get a sample contract?

Generally speaking, a hunting lease is where the landowner (lessor) gives a hunter (lessee) the right to hunt on property. Both parties, before any hunting takes place, should understand the conditions established by the landowner. This may range from a verbal agreement to a signed contract prepared by a lawyer. The decision is ultimately up to the landowner; however, the department encourages landowners and hunters to have a written contract so that each party knows their expectations. A sample contract can be obtained from the County Extension Agent.
