Road Conditions

July 26, 2026 - The entire park is open, but road conditions are rough in some areas leading into the park. 

Screwworm Alert

July 14, 2026 - The park is within an infested zone for the new world screwworm. For the safety of animals and to prevent the spread of this dangerous pest:

• Horses must be inspected before leaving the park.  Please call park headquarters before visiting to ask about TAHC requirements and schedule an inspection.
• If you bring pets, inspect them daily for cuts, wounds and signs of infestation.

If you see animals with unusual wounds or maggots, do not move them. Let someone know where you saw them: 

• For pets/livestock: Contact park staff or the Animal Health Commission at (737) 900-7455.
• For wildlife: Contact park staff or call (512) 389-4505. 

Special Event Notices

The park will host special events on these dates. Expect busy trails and limited parking.

• Oct. 23-25, 2026
• Jan. 8-10, 2027

Park Closures

The park will be closed on the following dates:

• 10 p.m. on Nov. 8 to 6 a.m. on Nov. 12
• 10 p.m. on Nov. 22 to 6 a.m. on Nov. 26
• 10 p.m. on Dec. 6 to 6 a.m. on Dec. 10
• 10 p.m. on Dec. 20 to 6 a.m. on Dec. 24
• 10 p.m. on Jan. 18 to 6 a.m. on Jan. 22

Only permitted hunters will be allowed on these dates.
