Centennial Parks Conservation Fund

Texas map showing parks, ecoregions and cities

In 2023, Texans voted to create the $1 billion Centennial Parks Conservation Fund  for purchasing land and developing new Texas State Parks. The interest earned on amounts credited to the fund may only be used for the creation and improvement of state parks (Tex. Constitution Art. 3 §40-e-1).

This fund allows Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to address the demand for more public lands in Texas while conserving natural and cultural resources for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Work has begun to purchase and develop new Texas State Parks!

Development Phases

  • Phase 1 - Facilitated Public Day Use: Within 12 months of purchase, the park will be open for facilitated public day use including public hunting and guided access such as tours, events, paddling or birding.
  • Phase 2 – Expanded Public Day Use: Within 18 months of purchase, the park will be open for day use with basic essential facilities in place such as trails, parking areas and restrooms.
  • Phase 3 – Park Open: Within 48 months of purchase, the park will be open with roads, utilities, communications and facilities.
