Park Expansion

Help Us Plan the Future of Enchanted Rock!

[Versión en Español]

Expanding a Texas treasure

map of parkTPWD invites you to help us plan the expanded Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, one of Texas’s most beloved outdoor destinations.

TPWD recently added over 3,700 acres to the natural area, more than doubling its size. The newly acquired property includes granite uplands with sweeping Hill Country views, rolling prairie with views of the iconic Rock dome, and areas along Sandy Creek.

This expansion is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect sensitive habitats, relieve visitor pressures, and broaden access to the park’s unique geological, ecological and cultural landscapes.

Why your voice matters

Enchanted Rock’s expansion is one of the first projects to be developed using interest generated by the $1 billion Centennial Parks Conservation Fund.

In accordance with TPWD policy, newly acquired parklands must open for limited public use within 18 months and full public use within 48 months. That means planning is underway.

We want your input to help shape what the park becomes!

Public Use Plan

TPWD plans to expand access, design visitor facilities, and protect natural and cultural resources as part of the development of this new property.

Your feedback will help define:

  • Potential day-use and overnight stays
  • Trails and scenic overlook locations
  • Protection of wildlife, water and habitats
  • Cultural and historical interpretation
  • Access, parking and visitor amenities
  • Long-term stewardship priorities

Planning timeline

  • Fall 2025 – Winter 2026: Community outreach and information gathering
  • January 2026: Public meetings on vision and priorities, launch of community survey
  • Summer 2026: Public meetings on the Public Use Plan, launch of questionnaire
