Update on Sheldon Lake State Park and Environmental Learning Center
August 21, 2008
I. Executive Summary: State Parks Director Walt Dabney will provide an update on the Sheldon Lake State Park and Environmental Learning Center. The overview will provide the history and physical development of the site, the efforts to provide outdoor education to school groups in the Houston area, and potential partnerships to expand outdoor education programs.
II. Discussion: Sheldon Lake State Park and Environmental Learning Center is a 2,800 acre haven for wildlife surrounded by the highways, railroads, and industry of Houston. The land on which the park sits has a rich history and a very bright future. The restoration of wetlands and habitats preserve the historical landscape of the area while the "green building" and conservation methods educate visitors about sustainable development.
