I. Executive Summary: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has negotiated a contract of sale with a private landowner for the acquisition of a 177.12-acre tract of land as an addition to Garner State Park.
II. Discussion: TPWD has entered into a contract of sale with a private landowner for the acquisition of an approximate 177.12 acre tract of land (Tract) adjacent to the southern end of Garner State Park (Park) having close to a mile of common fence line. This Tract will include the acquisition of a Frio River Bluff known as Old Baldy, one of the most scenic spots adjacent to the Park and a hiking trail to the peak of the bluff. In addition, the Tract is suited for primitive camping and hiking and can be managed by current staff.
III. Recommendation: The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:
"The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorizes the Executive Director to take all necessary steps to acquire a 177.12-acre tract of land as an addition to Garner State Park."
