White bass are moving up river with a good bite off points with slabs, and trolling crankbaits or rattle traps. Catfish are great in murky water in 4-6 feet of water with stink bait. Black bass are good on swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwater baits early in the morning. Report by Shon Riley, Lake Amistad Fishing Guides. Some bass continue to be on beds with some males guarding fry in 8-12 feet of water. Numbers of post spawn that can be caught with slow moving plastics. The topwater bite should improve towards the end of the month. Report by Kurt Dove, Amistad Bass Guide.
- Arlington
- GOOD. Water stained; 70 degrees; 0.17 feet above pool. Fishing patterns are holding steady. Bass are good with fish in all stages of spawn. Good topwater action in the morning, then target any kind of cover when the topwater bite ends. Water temperatures are in the upper 60 low 70s.

- Austin
- GOOD. Water stained; 67 degrees; 0.38 feet below pool. Bass are good with some fish on beds and a lot of bass fry in the back of pockets. Catching a lot of decent post spawn fish out deep around grass edges and breaks 10-15 feet of water. Report by Carson Conklin, ATX Fishing. Bass continue to be good with most bass finished with the spawn on the mid to lower end. There is still some spawning bass on the upper end that can be caught with Texas-rigged plastic, or a big swimbait. Concentrate on docks for some good bites or around deeper hydrilla. The watermilfoil has some fish in it, but not as good as the other grass. A small to medium swimbait and any soft plastics work around all of it. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
- B.A. Steinhagen
- FAIR. Water stain; 65 degrees; 0.60 feet below pool. Very few anglers on the water. Expect fish to start pushing shallow as the water warms.
- Bastrop
- GREAT. Water stained; 80 degrees. There are still some bass in the reeds, but fish are post spawn and starting to push to deeper water. There is some schooling action at the discharge in the evenings. The shad hatch is only about an inch long, because of this expect the schooling bite to be tough. Match the hatch with small profile baits like crappie launchers, clear topwaters, small Alabama rigs with small baits and small hard jerkbaits for offshore fish.
- Belton
- FAIR. Water stained; 67 degrees; 3.32 feet below pool. The annual threadfin shad spawn has now become very consistent and will typically remain so through about the third week of May. With so much forage consistently shallow the gamefish have moved shallower as well. Most morning action is taking place from the bank to 25 feet on areas impacted by overnight winds. Live bait will have an edge to catch white bass and hybrids over artificial presentations until the shad spawn begins to weaken. Fish found on sonar will typically not remain in one location very long as bait and fish move rapidly thanks to increasing metabolism as the spring season moves on. Fishing large, four inches or longer, live shad will help select for hybrid stripers, and keep smaller white bass at bay. Smaller baits will ensure more action, but for smaller fish, including white bass and blue catfish. Cut, fresh, dead shad is also an option when fishing gets tougher after cold fronts and during calm winds. Those gamefish spotted feeding on shad on the surface in the first hour of the day and or under cloudy skies, can be sight-cast to. The MAL Original or MAL Heavy with silver blade and chartreuse tail are just the ticket for this scenario. Report by Bob Maindelle, Holding the Line Guide Service. Catfish remain excellent with a consistent bite. Anglers should search for blue catfish in river channels and around ledges in 20-30 feet of water. Larger cut baits have been effective for trophy size fish. Slow drifting with small cut shad along sand flats will produce eater fish under 10 pounds. Channel catfish are fair but can still be caught on warmer days using punch bait in 15-25 feet of water. Report by Brian Worley, B&S Catfishing.
- Benbrook
- GOOD. Water stained; 65 degrees; 0.34 feet below pool. Bass are in all stages of the spawn. Crappie can be caught on minnows and jigs. White bass are in the river on rattle traps and spoons.
- Bob Sandlin
- GOOD. Water stained; 60 degrees; 0.16 feet above pool. Crappie spawn is almost over pushing fish to roam offshore structure in 2-32 feet of water. Fish are hungry and can be caught on minnows or jigs. Channel catfish are feeding shallow gearing up for the spawn. Channel catfish are good on dough bait. Larger catfish can be caught on juglines. Blue catfish and flathead catfish are finished with the spawn. Fish are in 15-30 feet of water biting cut bait. Bass are primarily post spawn aggressively feeding. White bass are good with several limits reporting while trolling, and a few catches caught while fishing for crappie. Report by Chris Caswell, Lake Bob Sandlin Crappie Fishing Guide. Black bass are shallow in creeks and shallow banks. Fly fishing with craws and clouser minnow patterns should produce bass. Crappie and catfish are moving shallow fly fishing with wooly buggers, slow-sinking small fish patterns, or clouser minnows on sunny rocky shores might draw a strike. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service.
- Bois d'Arc
- SLOW. water stained; 60 degrees; 1.68 feet below pool. The lake continues to be low. Shad spawns are key early morning to run numbers of bass up. Look for birds or shad flickering on the shoreline. DieZel chatterbaits and mini chatterbaits in white or Shad colors are best for bass in 1-3 feet. Squarebill chatterbaits are good mid morning on points and pond dams in 3-5 feet. Texas rigs and weighted wacky rigs are good around bushes and timber. Creature baits in green pumpkin are good. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Crappie are excellent in full post spawn in the mouths of creeks leading to the main river channels. Target timber in 10-20 feet of water fish with plastics over minnows or hand tied jigs. Focus on the lower half of the lake where timber has been flooded longer. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service.
- Brady
- FAIR. Water stained; 65 degrees; 14.70 feet below pool. The lake is very low and ramps are closed. There is a temporary use ramp available. It is possible to catch crappie and bass from the crappie house and from the bank.
- Braunig
- FAIR. Water stained, 75 degrees. Redfish are being caught off the bank on crawfish and shrimp. Some redfish are being caught from boats trolling around the dam area on plastics and spoons. Channel catfish are being caught around rock lines on cheese bait. Bass are being caught in the weeds on plastics. Report by Harry Lamb, Alamo Texas Fishing.
- Bridgeport
- GOOD. Water slightly stained; 68 degrees; 4.99 feet below pool. Lake Bridgeport is around four feet low. Recent heavy rains have brought the lake up and muddied the clarity. All ramps are open. Catfish are excellent on cut baits. The river and creek mouths would be a great place to start. Crappie are good but scattered around docks and up shallow on the southern end. Jigs and minnows are both producing. Largemouth bass good on Texas rigged plastics, jigs and pigs and topwater baits. Hybrids and sand bass can be found fairly close to shore chasing spawning shad. A small minnow imitator should work. Report by Keith Bunch, Lake Bridgeport Guide Service.
- Brownwood
- GOOD. Water slightly stained; 67 degrees; 0.49 feet above pool. Black bass up to 8.36 pounds are excellent in 1-5 feet of water all around the lake in spawning pockets on Hag’s Tornados in green pumpkin, Tsunami Jigs and White Outlier Frogs. Last spawning wave has moved up on beds. Some bass are guarding fry and some are post spawn. Crappie are good to 10 inches on jigs in 2-10 feet with a few spawning on the gravel flats. White bass are excellent to 2 pounds on crankbaits around the lake spawning in the rocks and out of the lights at night. Catfish to 5 pounds are slow on jug lines with cut bait, nightcrawlers and chicken livers.
- Bryan
- GOOD. Water stained; 67 degrees. Bass continues to be good with a consistent bite pattern when around shad. As the shad spawn approaches the bite should continuously pick up. Fish are set up good on rock right now and can be caught shallow too. Bass are being caught on main and secondary points, especially when targeting rock with crankbaits. Shallow brush piles are also producing, with soft plastics and jigs performing well. Additionally, the wacky rig has been effective around grass lines, particularly in protected pockets and shallow flats. Report by the Aggie Anglers.
- Buchanan
- EXCELLENT. Water slight stain; 69 degrees; 20.77 feet below pool. The shad spawn continues at daylight on most sandy shorelines attracting the white bass and stripers. The striper are biting best on live shad in 15-52 feet of water. There has been some limited surface activity on the main lake, but the fish are not staying up long enough to target. Be aware the lake has reached the level where the submerged trees are starting to show and many others not far below the surface. Report by Travis Holland, TH Fishing. Chance of rain in the forecast but the patterns should remain consistent. Shad are spawning along wind blown shorelines and main lake points. Striped bass, hybrid and white bass are good on deeper in trees in 20-38 feet of water with live bait. White bass are also hitting jigging spoons, or small live shad midlake in 34 feet of water. There is a topwater bite at daylight. Catfish are mixed in with stripers. Report by Captain Aaron Dick, One Up Fishing Guide Service. Crappie fishing remains fair on brush in 10-20 feet of water with minnows. Channel catfish are good in 15 feet of water. Blue catfish are good in main lake timber in 30 feet of water with cut shad. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service.
- Caddo
- SLOW. Water stained; 67 degrees; 1.35 feet above pool. Lake has fallen to a more normal level at around 170 so you can launch and load now with just one person and not get your feet wet at the ramp- if you know, you know. The fish have been good on trees with the spawn still going strong, wacky worms and fluke work good still in black and blue and watermelon red colors. A frog or topwater popper works well also around the trees. Try a swimbait or a buzzbait covering the grass and pads to catch post spawn fish. The lake is looking and fishing well with some decent current rolling in the river and bayou systems. This is a wonderful time of the year to come to this majestic and divine lake we call Caddo. Report provided by Vince Richards, Caddo Lake Fishing & Fellowship.
- Calaveras
- SLOW. Water slightly stained, 84 degrees. Redfish are being caught off the bank by the dam on crawfish, shrimp and fish bites. Some redfish are being caught trolling on plastics 15-18 feet. Blue catfish are being caught towards power lines on rock piles with cheese bait and shad. Channel catfish are being caught under over hanging trees in the water on cheese bait. Report by Harry Lamb, Alamo Texas Fishing.
- Canyon Lake
- GOOD. Water slightly stained; 71 degrees; 30.95 feet below pool.
- Cedar Creek
- EXCELLENT. stained; 69 degrees; 0.12 feet below pool. Fishing patterns remain consistent. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the dam on edges of drop-offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits with a very slow retrieve off the bottom in 17-26 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. The shad spawn is in full swing, so the early shallow wall bite is on fire all over the lake. Fresh caught shad tossed up to the walls on bottom or under a float are a sure way to catch good numbers of nice eating sized catfish. There is still a deeper drifting bite in 12-24 feet of water using cut shad, drum or carp drifted along the bottom. Many fish being caught in the 10-50 pound range. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.

Shad spawn is happening also, look for birds on the banks ready to pick off shad. Shad will spread out on the points, and this is a great opportunity to catch bass with shallow crankbaits. Shad will also spawn on retaining walls and you can use topwater lures to cover water. Fishing the shad spawn is mostly a morning bite. - Stillhouse
- GOOD. Water stained; 67 degrees; 4.26 feet below pool. The annual white bass spawn has almost completely run its course, and the annual threadfin shad spawn is now well underway. These coinciding events bring white bass into shallow water to feed on spawning shad most mornings on slow tapering wind blown topographies. With the clear water, these fish quickly move to the 20-25 foot mark after the direct sun rays strike the water shortly after sunrise. In shallow water, the MAL Original works very well to imitate spawning adult shad. Once the fish move out deeper, the silver, three-quarter ounce Bladed Hazy Eye Slab has been the ticket to later morning fish. Dropping the slab to the bottom and cranking it smoothly and consistently 5 to 6 turns up off the bottom while observing for fish response on 2-D sonar or forward facing soar is the key to getting bit consistently. Largemouth bass are now consistently in 8-14 feet of water, especially on topographic irregularities with some form of cover present. Dark, small, naturally-colored soft plastics worked with Texas rigs or Carolina rigs are consistent producers here. Report by Bob Maindelle, Holding the Line Guide Service.

Fish have been in the 12-30 feet range. The trophy catfish bite finally ended, but the eating sized catfish bite is wide open. Big numbers of fish are being caught with small pieces of cut shad and cut carp and buffalo. Wind blown banks are key in 2-6 feet of water. Crappie are improving better. We are now seeing big groups of fish that are leaving the shallow water. Jigs and minnows are working on brush and bridge pilings in 10-14 feet of water. Largemouth bass are very good on buck brush in 1-4 feet of water with senkos and wacky rigged smaller flukes. Report by Captain Michael Littlejohn, Lake Tawakoni Guide Service.

- Texoma
- FAIR. Water stained; 62 degrees; 1.16 feet below pool. The striper fishing is great with the rise in water levels and surface temperatures. The shad spawn is in full force, look for fish shallow along rocky banks on Topwaters and swimbaits. Look for birds on the banks and surface activity. Crappie are still scattered and in spawning stages. Fish are suspended under docks and near the top of brush. Jigs and small shad are working in 12-15 feet of water near creeks and coves. Catfish are showing up along the rocks and shallow flats. Cut shad or prepared baits in 5-12 feet of water near points and drop-offs. Bass are at the backs of coves and for suspended fish near docks. The shad spawn and rise in lake levels will pull fish on to the banks as well. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass can be found in all depths under the birds. Some fish will move into the creeks searching for warmer water due to the rising water. Best baits are swimbaits in deeper water under seagulls, and topwater under egrets are working the banks. The water is muddy in the river so this will push fish to the main lake seeking better clarity. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
- Toledo Bend
- SLOW. Water stained; 62 degrees; 0.36 feet below pool. There are still numbers of bass on the bank in 1-5 feet biting wacky worms and senko. A few bass are starting to move out to 6-12 feet hitting Carolina rigs, Texas rigs and mid running crankbaits. The shad spawn should start any day, as hot as it has gotten the last couple days. When this starts, target points with spinnerbaits, swimjigs and topwaters. Most days this pattern lasts for about an hour in the morning. Crappie action is finally picking up in 5-9 feet of water, shallow timber, brush piles and shallow docks with jigs. Few reports came in this week at night on lighted docks. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
- Travis
- GOOD. Water normal stain; 74 degrees; 45.49 feet below pool. Shad spawn are spawning throughout the lake, where there is shade there are shad. On the main lake there are massive amounts of shad on bluff walls. Conditions on the main lake are tough for bass fishing due to clear water, blue skies and the lack of wind. Bass are tucked into shaded spots out of the sun and sight of predators. Some bass can be caught along the grass with swimbaits. The best bite has been in the creeks targeting shady water in 5-25 feet or less. Downsize baits and slow your approach dragging small Ned rigs dragging slowly to catch 2-3 pound bass. Some bass are still on spawning beds. Report by Randal Frisbee, Central Texas Fishing Guide, LLC. Largemouth are great in the shallow grass near the inside grass line. Throwing worms and creature baits are getting the most bites. Small swimbaits and glidebaits and wakebaits are catching some big ones as well. Moving out deeper on the outside grass li especially in 10-20 feet of water you might get the even bigger bites throwing creature baits, jigs or shaky heads. Watermelon and Green pumpkin colors are working well. Dying the tails with chartreuse dye and garlic scent helps. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
- Twin Buttes
- SLOW. Water stained. 72 degrees; 34.10 feet below pool. The lake has received over 5 feet of water over the last week so the clarity is murky. Once the water settles the bite will be good. Report by Captain Michael Peterson, 4 Reel Fun Guide Service.

- GOOD. Water slightly stain; 77 degrees. The boat ramp is still closed and blocked off to anything but kayaks and small craft. Launching from the ramp is challenging due to the numerous potholes and large rocks, but small watercraft can be launched from the shoreline. The warmer temperatures seem to be helping the grass make a comeback, but it is still submerged and not yet matted up. Find and concentrate on areas where submerged vegetation has a few feet of water above it. Moving baits like lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and Alabama rigs are working well as fish are chasing bait. Texas-rigged soft plastics are always effective, with senkos, dropshots, and shaky heads consistently getting bit. Report by Team YAKUSA.
