Official Hawk Watches
There were only three official Hawk Watches in 1998:
- Smith Point at Candy Abshire Wildlife Management Area near Anahuac with 59 kites seen (21% of the kites reported to this project that year).
- Hazel Bazemore near Corpus Christi with 6 kites seen (2% of the kites reported to this project).
- Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge near McAllen conducted a spring survey with 2 kites seen (less than one percent of the kites reported to this project that year).
- "Sylvan Beach" (an unofficial hawk watch site, but an important site in La Porte in Harris County reported by Dick Benoit) with 16 kites seen (roughly 6% of the kites reported to this project that year).
There were only three official Hawk Watches in 1999:
- Smith Point at Candy Abshire Wildlife Management Area near Anahuac with 54 kites seen (6% of the kites reported to this project that year).
- Hazel Bazemore near Corpus Christi with 31 kites seen (3.5% of the kites reported to this project).
- Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge near McAllen conducted a spring survey with 2 kites seen (0.2% of the kites reported to this project that year).
- "Sylvan Beach" had an unofficial spring survey with 5 kites seen (0.6% of the kites reported to this project that year).
