Burn Ban
Oct. 9, 2025 - A burn ban is in effect for both units. No wood fires are allowed. You may use charcoal or containerized fuel stoves (i.e. propane) for cooking.
Birch Creek Alerts
Aug. 26, 2025 - Pavilions at Birch Creek are closed.
Feb. 16, 2024 - The Birch Creek fishing pier is closed due to damage.
Park Unit Closures
Portions of the park will be closed for wildlife management activities over the next several months.
Birch Creek Unit and the Trailway from Birch Creek to the bridge at Newman Bottom will be closed on these dates:
- 4 p.m. Dec. 9 to 2 p.m. Dec. 12
- 4 p.m. Jan. 13 to 2 p.m. Jan. 16, 2026
Nails Creek Unit and the Trailway from Nails Creek to the Nails Creek Trailway bridge will be closed on these dates:
- 4 p.m. Jan. 20 to 2 p.m. Jan. 23
The Trailway will be closed starting .5 mile from Nails Creek to Wolf Pond Primitive Campsites (Flag Pond will also be closed) on these dates:
- 4 p.m. Dec. 12 to 2 p.m. Dec. 14
- 4 p.m. Jan. 23 to 2 p.m. Jan. 25
Flag Pond Loop and Waldo's Loop trails will be closed from sunrise to noon daily during Early Teal, Regular North Zone Duck and Youth-Only Waterfowl seasons. Ask at headquarters if they are closed during your visit.
Only hunters with permits will be allowed in closed areas.
Trailway Bridges Out
May 1, 2024 - Two bridges on the Trailway are washed out, one over Nails Creek and one over Yegua Creek near the Newman Bottom parking area. Please reach out to either Nails Creek or Birch Creek headquarters for more information before heading out on the Trailway.
