Scientific Research Permits Protocols

The protocols on this page establish standardized requirements for research activities conducted under TPWD Scientific Research Permits. Not all protocols apply to every permit holder. Only the protocols specifically listed in Section 7.3 of your individual permit are required for your authorized activities.

These protocols may be updated periodically to reflect current best practices and TPWD policy. Each protocol displays a version number and an effective date. You are only required to follow the protocol version that was in effect at the time your permit was issued. If a protocol is updated after your permit issuance, the new requirements will not apply to your current permit term but will apply to future renewals. Permit amendments that expand the scope of a project may become subject to new/updated protocols.

When referenced in your permit, these protocols become legally enforceable conditions that supplement your specific authorizations. Certain conditions of an assigned protocol may be waived only if expressly stated within the body of a valid permit. This page serves as a comprehensive reference library of all available protocols.
