Texas Beyond BOW Workshops
This provides an overview of Texas Beyond BOW (BBOW) course types offered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Hunter Education. These courses are designed to equip adult women 18+ to outdoor skills in a supportive, encouraging environment.

- Safe trail practices, planning, situational awareness, and field readiness
- Land Navigation
- Map/compass basics and backcountry navigation skills
- Camping & Outdoor Skills
- Camping readiness, outdoor skills, and practical field basics
- Survival Skills & Techniques
- Survival fundamentals, preparation, and safety planning
- Hiking/Backpacking
- Hiking safety, trip planning, and trail awareness
- Foraging
- Plant safety basics, identifying considerations, and practical guidance
- Intro to Firearms
- Firearms safety, handling basics, and introductory shooting
- Firearm Cleaning
- Safe cleaning/maintenance routines and care basics
- Firearm Specific
- Safety handling basics, introductory and advanced techniques in Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Muzzleloader, and Air Rifle
- Species Specific
- Species-focused hunting fundamentals (varies by species-ex. Dove, Hog, White-tailed deer, Turkey, Small Game)
- Sky to Table (Waterfowl)
- Hunting fundamentals and practical skills needed to identify, harvest, process, and cook
- Wild Game Field Dressing
- Learn how and when game should be gutted, cleaned, cooled and prepared for the freezer
- Wild Game Processing
- Meat processing basics and safe handling guidance
- Wild Game Cooking
- Cooking methods, food safety, and preparation
- Outdoor Cooking
- Teaches open-fire techniques, heat control, and rustic meal preparation. Core topics include fire building, cast-iron usage, and grilling
- Trapper Education
- Ethical and humane practices for responsible trapping through hands-on field exercises
- Archery
- Archery fundamentals, safety, and introductory skills
- Bowhunting
- Discuss equipment selection, terminology, fit, and care. Learn safety practices, archery applications, and conclude with target practice
- Bowfishing
- Equipment, species identification, aiming and conservation through hands- on practice
- Angler
- Offer hands-on instruction from start to finish, covering equipment, places to go, and landing the fish. Learn about equipment, knot tying, choosing bait, fishing terminology loading a reel and casting
- Flyfishing
- Covers equipment basics, casting mechanics, and knot tying. Also includes gear breakdown, bug matching, and hands on practice
- Pond to Table
- Teaches how to catch, clean, and cook fresh fish or aquatic harvest. It covers line rigging, fish processing, and cooking methods
- Kayaking
- Fundamentals of paddling safety, including choosing the right equipment, entering and exiting the kayak, basic paddling technique, rules and regulations, and risk management
- Paddleboarding
- Fundamentals of paddling safety, including choosing the right equipment, standing or sitting form, basic paddling technique, rules and regulations, and risk management
- BOSS
- Becoming an Outdoor Super Senior- Tailored specifically for women 55 and older, this program offers a welcoming, no-pressure environment to learn outdoor sports, nature art, and gardening
