Old Tunnel State Park

Lower Viewing Area

Fee is per person, ages 4 and up. Due to the bat’s sensitivity to noise disturbance, children age 3 and under are not allowed at the lower viewing area. This area, including the trail to it, meet ADA accessibility guidelines. Purchase tickets online or by calling (512) 389-8900 before visiting. We do not sell tickets on site.

A close-up view of the emergence is one of the most unique experiences in nature. The flapping of millions of tiny wings is usually audible and often creates a light wind that can be felt in the lower viewing area. You can also enjoy listening to the soft clicking sounds the bats use to communicate with each other.

The lower viewing area is open Thursday through Sunday, May through October. We offer an educational program on bats as part of your visit.
