History
Possum Kingdom State Park, west of Mineral Wells in Palo Pinto County, is 1,528.7 acres adjacent to Possum Kingdom Lake. The state acquired this land from the Brazos River Authority in 1940. The park opened to the public in 1950.
The Civilian Conservation Corps built some of the rock facilities at the park in the early 1940s. Learn more about CCC work here from The Look of Nature: Possum Kingdom. Explore A New Deal for Texas State Parks (e-book resource for teachers and students)
